Celebrity Big Brother 2012: Brian Dowling Interview
Why do you think people are still so passionate about Big Brother?
Big Brother is still relevant and it remains the original reality television show. What you see on Big Brother is real, the situations are real, the drama is real and that’s why people still want to watch.
You’ve been on the show twice and you’ve won it twice. Now that you’re presenting it, how obsessed are you with Big Brother?
Whilst I was presenting the last series, I wanted as much access to the goings on in the house as possible. I suppose having been a housemate twice before, I know how it works so I wanted to keep up with the action. I have a healthy obsession with the show I’d say.
What is your favourite series to present, the celebrity or public version of the show?
I love both versions because I think they are both so different. As a nation, we are all celebrity obsessed and the viewers of CBB are always so excited to see what famous people are really like. With the public version of the show, we enjoy waiting to see what storylines will unfold and get really pulled into the personalities and relationships. There is a lot of excitement with Celebrity Big Brother and I’m looking forward to the second series!
Paddy Doherty won Celebrity Big Brother last year. Do you think he was the right person to win?
I’m not surprised Paddy won because he was such a loveable person and people liked him straight away. After the first week, I thought that Jedward, Kerry or Paddy would win. Big Brother is brilliant because it forgets race, sexuality and gender. Look at winners of the past; they prove that if you’re a likeable person, you will do well.
What annoys you about housemates?
I’m the worst critic as I expect so much! It annoys me when people go into the house with agendas and ideas. You’ve got to go in knowing nothing and just live it. I also dislike it when people promise to bring loads and bring nothing. And when people walk out.
Who would be on your celebrity housemate wish list?
Barbara Windsor! She would be amazing and I would want to make her say, “Get out of my house!” in the classic EastEnders style.
What would you want to happen to the new CBB housemates?
I want Big Brother to get tougher with them this year, the celebs had it way too easy last year!
What was your favourite task from the last CBB series?
I think all of the tasks for the celebrity housemates were great but I especially liked the twin task where the housemates were paired up and had to copy each other’s personas. Amy Childs and Tara Reid were brilliant at that, who’d have thought they could be so similar!
Can you give us any hints about the new BB House?
All I can say to the new celebrity housemates is pack some ski boots…
